“Go on in the water, Bulma,” Said a slow voice from the door to the pink Kame House.
It was Turtle. Bulma had no idea he would be coming outside as well. She shrugged it off and began to walk into the cool clear water.
“Just fall into the waves. Don’t fight them.”
Bulma frowned, the water took a little getting used to and here her new master was trying to get her to go full in. She wondered for a second if turtles could feel temperature the same way humans could.
Taking her master’s advice she fell into the water, the salty coldness over took her and washed her out a little ways from the island. The weightless feeling made her smile. She felt much lighter in the water, even if it was salty.
A slight breeze was holding a steady beat as the waves lapped at her shoulders. It was very peaceful out here. She dove under the water just in time to see a school of colorful fish swim by, their fins propelling them like men marching by. This made her smile as well.
Bulma swarm deeper under the waves where the water was calmer. The undersea world here was as busy as her favorite district in town. Instead of different kinds of people there were different kinds of fish. Each one or each group went about their business, whatever fish business might be.
Here she watched until she had to come up for air. Turtle was waiting for her and seemed pleased.
“Well?”
“There is a whole other world down there. The fish remind me of the people back in the city.”
“Good, what else?”
“It’s easier to go with the water rather than against it.”
“Good, keep swimming around.”
Bulma dove back under the water and swam around more, getting a better view of the ‘underwater city’. Who would have ever thought that there was a whole society under the water.
A few hours later she was feeling tired and her limbs began to feel heavy. She came up for air and Turtle was gone. Bulma assumed he returned to the island and swam back. Once she got on land she realized It was hard for her to stand let alone walk and she crawled over to a chair and pulled herself into it.
“I take it you are making progress?” Master Roshi asked, a big grin on his face.
“If this is progress then yeah. I’m exhausted.”
“I guess it’s easier to start your training when you’re still young.”
“I am not old! I’m just not in as good of shape as I used to be.”
“Well, that’s going to be changing isn’t it?”
“Obviously.”
Turtle emerged from the waved and slowly made his way over to Bulma. “I take it you are done for today?”
“Yeah, I couldn’t even stand when I got back to land, I had to crawl over here.”
“Good. You are ready to learn how to fly then.”
“Wow are you serious? This soon?”
“If you would rather wait…” Turtle began but was unable to finish.
“No, let’s do it now!”
“You know how you pushed the water with your feet and hands? You push the air with your energy.”
Bulma tried to user her energy to push the air and couldn’t.
“The energy comes from your mid section, try again to focus it and then spread it to where it goes.”
The young woman focused her energy, gathering it in her midsection. She then sent it to her feet and felt herself lift off the ground a little before loosing her concentration and falling back into her chair.
“With practice...”
“Yeah, I need to practice that and before long it will be second nature.”
“Good.”
“Not much longer and you’ll be my pupil, keep up the hard work.” Master Roshi grinned and picked up a magazine and settled into a lawn chair.
Bulma took this as a sign it was time to go for the day and changed into her clothes again.
“You fly here in two days for more practice. Keep up your training.”
“I’ll see you then,” Bulma waved to the two inhabitants of the island and was off.
She would come back in just a couple days but until then she was determined to learn how to fly.
