The warm sun danced across Bulma’s face as her bright blue eyes fluttered open. Today she would learn another skill to add to her ever growing list of abilities she had to practice every day. She had noticed herself becoming stronger and faster over the course of her continuing training.
Bulma would not go home until she finished her training with Korin. She felt like being there would put everyone in danger seeing as how the bad guys these days seemed to have some weird ability to sense where you are. It was incredibly creepy.
The young genius yawned and stretched as she stood to greet the day face to face. Bulma felt like today was going to be different somehow. It didn’t feel like the days of the past couple weeks. She tried to think what it was but couldn’t quite place it.
“Bulma, if you’re awake we should start training now,” Korin called out from above.
“On my way,” Bulma stretched and then bounded up the steps, taking two and three at a time.
“Ah, good, you still use your legs even thought you know how to fly. That will help you in our next lesson. Come over here.”
Bulma followed Korin’s instruction and even allowed him to usher her a step this way or that with his walking staff. When he finally had her standing in just the right spot her walked over to a spot directly in front of her and stood for a moment. They stared at each other in silence a moment before Bulma finally spoke.
“So, what am I supposed to do?”
“Focus your ki into your hands and feet.”
“Why? Is this part of my lesson for today?”
“Yes it is. If you can focus your energy into your hands and feet you will be able to kick and hit harder than before.”
Bulma frowned, Korin seemed a bit cranky today. Sure he was usually short in his speech but he was impatient about something.
“Is something wrong?”
“No. Why would there be anything wrong? It’s not like there is a tournament coming up and Roshi neglected to tell me until the last minute so I have very little time to prepare you for it since now you will undoubtedly want to enter.”
Bulma laughed, so that was what this was about. “I think I get it now.” She obediently focused her ki into her hands and feet before kicking and punching the air. She noticed the difference it made. “Wow, this is great!”
“See what I mean, if you can do that to the air imagine what you can do to another fighter.”
“Yeah! The strength I get from this and the speed, it will be a great asset when I face some of those guys down there in the tournament.”
“I forgot to mention something. This tournament is going to be more than just world wide, it’s going to include people from other planets as well. Don’t be surprised if you meet someone way stronger than the fighters on Earth.”
Bulma smiled to herself, she already met who she thought was the strongest fighter on Earth and he was an alien but she wouldn’t dare tell Korin or anyone else. She liked knowing that bit of information and didn’t want to share her knowledge.
“I already know about the alien on Earth and he isn’t the only one.” Korin blurted out.
“How did you already know, I didn’t say anything!”
“I’m telepathic, I can read minds.” He looked at her a moment, “As smart as you are and as much as you meditate you probably could too if you tried hard enough.”
Bulma’s eyes widened, “Really?”
“Well, to an extent. You wouldn’t be able to get nearly as much as I can unless someone wants you to know something you probably won’t be able to know it.”
“You won’t tell anyone will you?”
“No, I won’t, your secret is safe with me.”
“Good because I don’t think he would take too well to someone else knowing about him.”
“What because of the mask? And why would you care if he was happy about it or not?”
“In case you didn’t know it I don’t have many friends. It school everyone thought I was a nerd and that because I was rich I was stuck up so that phase of my life passed without me learning how to make friends. I pretty much have to leave it up to chance.”
“It’s better that way, less people trying to mooch off you or getting in your way on your quest.”
“That’s true. I suspect you know about the big quest I intend to go on when I feel my training has gone far enough?”
“Yeah, but consider wishing for something other than a boyfriend. All you would have to do is walk into a crowded room and all the guys would look at you.”
“I suppose, but I’m not sure what I would wish for then.”
“You could wish for money, power, world peace, anything.”
“Well, I don’t need money, I’d rather get power the old fashioned way, and I’m not sure world peace would be all that great either.”
“Are you kidding me? You don’t think would peace would be great? You confuse me, kid.”
“I know but I would want my wish to be really great and I would need to think about it. I’d probably still wish for a boyfriend. What would you wish for, Korin?”
“World peace.”
“I thought so.”
“What? You were expecting power?” Korin laughed.
“Nope, in in few days I have been here I think I know you well enough to say you don’t need power.”
“You do, so get back to training.”
“I will as soon as I toy with one of my inventions I haven’t had a chance to play with lately.”
Bulma took the prototype of the dragon radar out of her pocket and began tinkering, using a little screwdriver she had stashed in her pocket.
“So that is the thing you think can be made to find dragon balls?”
“Yeah, but I’m going to need one to set the right frequency.”
“Well, as soon as you’re done playing with that scrap metal get back to training, you don’t have enough time to play around.”
Bulma put away her ‘toy’ and got back to training. After she was done with this tournament she wanted to hunt dragon balls or at least get another master that would let her tinker more.
